FAQ

Frequently asked questions about home care in Hyderabad

Short, direct answers first; the detail follows. If your question is not here, call or WhatsApp us. We would rather answer it than guess.

General

What is home care?

Home care is support provided in a person's own home instead of a hospital or facility. It ranges from non-medical caregiving (help with daily living and companionship) to home nursing (clinical tasks carried out by a qualified nurse under a doctor's direction).

Who is Shiva Kaartikeya Homecare Services?

Shiva Kaartikeya Homecare Services is a Hyderabad-based home care provider that places trained live-in caregivers, patient attendants, baby-care attendants and nurses in family homes across Hyderabad and Secunderabad, round the clock.

What services do you provide?

Elderly care, patient care and attendants, newborn and mother care, home nursing, caregiver services, post-hospitalisation care and bedridden patient care. All of it is 24/7 live-in.

Do you provide hourly, daytime-only or night-only care?

No. Our caregivers, attendants and nurses live in the home and work round the clock. If you only need a few hours a day, we will tell you honestly that our model is not the right fit.

Do you provide maids, cooks or housekeeping?

Our focus is care of the person: elders, patients, mothers and newborns. Caregivers keep the person's room and belongings tidy but do not take on general housework. If you need household staff, we will tell you honestly whether we can help.

Can I start with a trial or a short arrangement?

Yes. Many families start with a short period after discharge and then extend. Tell us your expected duration and we confirm what is possible.

Cost and billing

How much does a live-in caretaker cost per month in Hyderabad?

It depends on the level of physical care needed, the type of staff and the duration. We provide a written quote after a short assessment call rather than a generic rate, so the price reflects your actual needs.

How much does a live-in home nurse cost per month?

Live-in nursing is priced higher than caregiving because of the qualification and the nature of the tasks. We quote after reviewing the doctor's instructions.

What affects the price?

The type of staff (caregiver, attendant or nurse), the patient's condition and physical needs, and the duration. Location alone does not change the quote.

Is there a charge for the assessment call?

The initial call to understand your needs and prepare a quote is part of our process. If a home visit is required before care starts, we will tell you in advance whether there is any charge.

How and when do I pay?

Payment terms are confirmed in the written quote before care begins. Ask your coordinator for the options available.

Caregivers and attendants

How are caregivers selected and verified?

We collect and check government ID and address proof, discuss previous care experience and references, and orient the caregiver for the specific type of care before placement. A coordinator supervises after placement. The exact steps we follow are listed on our About page.

Can I choose a male or female caregiver?

Yes. Tell us your preference for gender and language when you enquire; we match accordingly, subject to availability.

Do caregivers speak Telugu?

Most do, and many also speak Hindi and some English. Tell us the language your family member is most comfortable with.

What does a caregiver not do?

Caregivers do not give injections, dress wounds, handle catheters or tubes, change medicines, or diagnose. They also do not do general housework, cooking for the household or errands unrelated to the person's care.

What does the family provide for a live-in caregiver?

A clean place to sleep and keep belongings, meals or an agreed allowance, access to a bathroom, and reasonable rest time each day including a weekly rest day as agreed in the quote.

Does the caregiver sleep at night?

The caregiver rests when the person sleeps or is settled and is available for anything needed during the night. For patients who need someone awake and monitoring all night, we discuss on the call whether a nurse or a second person is needed.

Can I meet the caregiver before they start?

Where possible, yes. A phone call or a short meeting can be arranged. Tell us when you enquire.

What if I am not happy with the caregiver?

Tell your coordinator as early as possible. We arrange a replacement and take your feedback into account for the match.

Home nursing

When do I need a nurse instead of a caregiver?

When the doctor's plan includes clinical tasks: injections, IV, wound dressing, catheter or feeding-tube care, or monitoring that needs interpretation. For everything else in daily living, a caregiver or attendant is the right choice. Some patients need both.

Do I need a prescription for home nursing?

Yes. Nurses carry out tasks as directed by the treating doctor, so we ask for the discharge summary or prescription before assigning a nurse.

Can a home nurse give injections or IV?

Yes, when prescribed for home administration and the nurse is trained for the task. We confirm case by case from the prescription.

Does the nurse live in?

Yes. Like all our staff, the nurse stays in your home round the clock.

Do you provide ICU care at home?

No. We provide home nursing for stable patients under a doctor's direction. Patients who need ICU-level monitoring or ventilator management need a hospital or a specialised critical-care-at-home provider.

Newborn and baby care

What does a baby-care attendant do?

Feeding routine support, burping, bathing, massage where the family wants it, diapering, cord-area hygiene, soothing, sleep routines, night care, baby laundry and sterilising, and help for the mother's rest. The attendant lives in, follows the paediatrician's instructions and does not give medical advice.

Does the attendant handle the nights?

Yes. The attendant lives in and attends to the baby at night so parents can sleep.

When should I book?

Before the due date, so the attendant is ready the day you come home. If the baby has already arrived, we usually start within 24 to 48 hours.

Does the attendant follow our family's postnatal customs?

Yes. Tell us about the customs your family follows and we brief the attendant. Health decisions always remain with your doctor.

Coverage and timing

Which areas do you cover?

Hyderabad and Secunderabad, including Kukatpally, Madhapur, Gachibowli, Kondapur, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Ameerpet, Begumpet, Khairatabad, Mehdipatnam, Uppal, Nagole and Dilsukhnagar. Ask about other areas; we cover most of Greater Hyderabad.

How quickly can care start?

Usually within 24 to 48 hours of the assessment call; sometimes the same day. Contact us before a hospital discharge and we plan for the day the patient comes home.

Does my location affect cost or start time?

Because our staff live in, commute distance does not affect reliability, and location alone does not change the quote. Start time depends on caregiver availability, not on where you live.

Can children abroad arrange care for parents in Hyderabad?

Yes. We coordinate on WhatsApp or calls, send daily updates at a time that suits your time zone, and can speak to a local relative you nominate.
